For a Florida Keys trip in a luxury Sprinter, reserve the overnight stops before filling the days with beaches and boat trips. A van that is comfortable on the highway can still be awkward at a small hotel entrance or unsuitable for a tent-only campsite.
Choose between hotel-based travel and camping first. If you plan to sleep in the van, confirm its sleeping, sanitation and cooling arrangements rather than assuming every luxury conversion is a self-contained RV.
Start with a short list of established campgrounds
Curry Hammock State Park is one place to investigate for a Middle Keys base. The park lists 28 campsites with water and 20/30/50-amp electrical service. Check the particular site’s dimensions, current availability and booking conditions before choosing it.
Bahia Honda State Park is another candidate, but its different camping areas need careful reading. Do not transfer the limit or equipment allowance from one area to another. Review the campsite record and confirm that both your vehicle and your planned sleeping setup are accepted.
Use the official Florida State Parks reservation information for the booking process and rules that apply to your stay. Check total charges and cancellation terms at booking. A campground mentioned in a guide is not a promise of availability.
Make your reservation with the loaded length
Measure to the end of a fitted rack or cargo box, not just the van’s rear doors. Ask about the approach road, turning room and any overhead obstruction as well as the site pad. Include the space needed to open doors and use the electrical connection without obstructing the next site.
For a hotel, request a confirmed outdoor parking arrangement and a route from the street that avoids low canopies. Ask whether the van may remain in that space during the entire stay. “Valet available” is not enough information for a tall vehicle.
Plan cooling before choosing an unpowered night
Work out whether the rear air conditioner operates with the engine off and what powers it. If you need overnight cooling, select a site whose electrical service is compatible with your van, or use lodging with confirmed parking.
Do not extrapolate an entire night from a few minutes of battery-powered cooling. Use our air-conditioning runtime guide to estimate demand and conduct a supervised test before relying on the system. A sunny campsite and a mild evening at home are different conditions.
Keep a Key West day separate from the overnight plan
You do not need to move your sleeping base to make every day trip. Decide whether you will drive the van, use another transport option or book an activity with an appropriate pickup point. If driving, confirm a suitable parking lot and entrance before setting off.
Reserve enough of the day for travel and parking rather than packing several time-sensitive bookings together. Ask tour operators where a tall van may wait or load passengers; a convenient street address may be a pedestrian entrance with no vehicle space.
Leave with a weather and cleanup plan
Check current park alerts, road information and weather before the trip and again before moving between overnight stops. Know the cancellation conditions for each booking and retain enough flexibility to change plans when operators advise it.
After beach visits, remove sand from the entrance, mats and seat tracks before it spreads through the cabin. Dry wet towels outside the stored interior when appropriate, and use the builder’s instructions for exterior washing and care.
